INTRODUCTION
The Accomplished Teaching Forum is designed to provide training to an accomplished group of educators focusing on the National Board Certification Process. In July, CTA held two 3-day summer seminars, one in Norco, California and one in Santa Fe Springs.
The forum is organized into two specially designed tracks: one for National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) and one for National Board Candidates. The two tracks merge daily and the NBCTS, newly trained as NBCT Certified Support Providers, are able to work directly with candidates.
TRACK A: National Board Candidates
Track A is designed for CTA members seeking National Board Certification. National Board Jump Start is led by a fun and dynamic team of National Board Certified Teachers. Candidates receive explicit instruction on how to breakdown the National Board assessment portfolio and process. Each day candidates review a section of the portfolio and start work on portfolio entries.
Jump Start was designed by Washington Education Association and is intended to complement year-long candidate support provided by a CTA, university and district support programs. Candidates bring three 3-ring binders and all of their printed materials, including Portfolio Instructions, Scoring Guide and Standards, to the Jump Start Forum.
TRACK B: National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs)
Track B is designed for National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) interested in developing mentoring skills and becoming candidate support providers (CSPs). Systematic instruction is provided in ethics, design, reflection and coaching practices. Each day, NBCTs receive instruction and then use newly acquired skills working directly with their colleagues, National Board Candidates in Track A.
